Hiking Yr Wyddfa….. with an ergo?!!
Two competing teams work together!
On the 11th of May 2024 the Merched Y Môr team joined forces with another women’s crew (The Only Way Is Rowing) competing in ‘The World’s Toughest Row 2025’ to take on a mammoth joint fundraising challenge. This is the first time a joint fundraiser between two competing teams has happened and testament to these crews’ attitudes.
Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) is the highest mountain in Wales at 1085m. The two women’s crews not only took themselves to the top but just to spice things up decided to take a rowing machine with them! Each crew member, 8 in total, then rowed 1085m on the top, attracting interest and applause, and it would be fair to say some confused looks!
Mounted on a set of canoe trailer wheels, the rowing machine survived the journey up and down, however with the day being the hottest of the year so far, the girls were up against it. Making excellent time, 4 hours up and 3 hours back down, in total the day was a full 8 hours on the mountain. Sincere thanks to our wonderful support crews for carrying water and supplies as well as generating lots of interest and donations.
Huge thanks to the students and staff of The University of Wales Trinity Saint David Outdoor Adventure Education and Adventure Filmmaking degrees and the dedicated friends and families of the rowers, it wouldn’t have happened without you. To those who donated, thank you so much for your support, both crews are edging closer to their fundraising target and the start line in La Gomera in December 2025!
